Red Hat Package Manager files have the <emphasis>.rpm</emphasis> suffix. It is not recommended that these be installed on a <phrase>Kubuntu</phrase> system. In almost all cases, a native <phrase>Kubuntu</phrase><emphasis>.deb</emphasis> version of the package is available. However, if necessary, an <emphasis>.rpm</emphasis> file can be converted to a <emphasis>.deb</emphasis> package using a program called <application>alien</application>.
