The <application>HP Device Manager</application> eases the configuration of <acronym>HP</acronym> Multifunction Devices (<acronym>MFD</acronym>s), printers that function as copiers and scanners, as well as other <acronym>HP</acronym> printers. It is recommended that if you have a direct connection via <acronym>USB</acronym>, <acronym>LPT</acronym> (parallel port), or network (direct connection or JetDirect) that you use this application. This application does not work with printers set up on a shared network printer using <application>Samba</application>, if your printer is configured this way, it is recommended that you see <xref linkend="print-network"/>.
