The Usenet is a world-wide distributed Internet discussion system that has been around long before the first websites showed up. Beside normal text messages, user may also post files, which are most commonly split up into different messages. To simplify the download of such files, the NZB file format was developed by the creators of the Newzbin.com Usenet Index. Such files contain the information about what is to be downloaded exactly and are usually created by Usenet search engines such as the mentioned one.
